Paying with your IgoriaCard? Beware of illegal gambling

Wednesday,

Warning about illegal online gambling Do you use an IgoriaCard or pay with BLIK through a service operated by Igoria Trade S.A.? Before making a payment on a gambling website, make sure its operator is legally authorised to operate in Poland. A foreign licence alone is not sufficient.

What could happen when you attempt to pay?

A payment made with an IgoriaCard or BLIK on a website offering illegal gambling may be declined. This applies in particular to websites using domains listed in the Ministry of Finance’s register, where payment service providers are prohibited from making their services available. Do not use IgoriaCard cards or the Company’s payment services for transactions connected with illegal gambling. Remember that a successful payment does not confirm that a website or the games it offers are legal.

What penalties could participants face?

Participating in illegal gambling may result in a substantial fine and an administrative financial penalty equal to 100% of the winnings received, without deducting the stakes paid. Liability arises from participation in the game; a declined payment does not, in itself, mean that a penalty has been imposed.

How can you check whether an operator is legal?

Check the website’s domain in the Register of Domains Used to Offer Gambling Contrary to Polish Law. However, a domain’s absence from the register does not guarantee that the operator’s activities are legal. You should also verify the operator’s authorisation using the Ministry of Finance’s information on legal online gambling. To reduce legal and financial risks, use only legal operators and always make sure that the platform is authorised to offer the relevant games in Poland.
